April is nearly over, let the travelling begin

April is finally coming to an end and what a month it has been…

The first weekend, I journeyed down to London, bought a DAY ticket for the underground instead of a short stop ticket, then managed to miss my train out of London because I didn’t really know what I was doing… Sigh, call myself a traveller.

I’ve alsobeen to a wedding of an old friend and been awed by the love and tenderness these 2 lovely people share. A beautiful location and ceremony. I also managed to learn some Ceilidh (traditional Gaelic dancing).

I launched my new website and blog after putting in a ridiculous number of hours planning, reading, configuring and designing. Twitter accounts updated, new Facebook pages created and finally on the 10th April, the site went live. Thanks to everyone for their support, I’m honestly WELL-pleased with the result.

I receive an email from my friend in America who I haven’t seen for 24 years saying that they had dinner with a friend the previous night and their friend had mentioned that he started following someone on Facebook who had given up their job and started travelling the world. Yup, you guessed it, it was me. How crazy is that??? What an incredibly small world we live in. So Raj, I look forward to meeting you in June this year :-)

I journeyed to Birmingham to see the wonderful Il Divo. It was in this city that I discovered nobody accepts or carries change and ended up overpaying a bus and taxi driver. Sigh!

For the second time in a month, I am seen wearing a dress to attend a 50th birthday party of an old friend (old being the friendship, not the friend!!). It was an 80’s night and I bopped away to the delights of Rick Astley, Human League, Erasure and Madonna. It was great! (even the Rick Astley part).

So…I have been unable to travel in April because all of these things (except the website launch) happened on a weekend.

But the excitement starts now…. I leave on Thursday to travel to Ireland. I’ve never been before so this is a brand new country for me.
I am meeting my friend Anja in Dublin and we will enjoy 10 lovely days exploring the south of the island. Dublin, County Wicklow, Cashel, Killarney and the Dingle Peninsula, Connemara National Park and much more. We are both looking so forward to it (and to seeing each other because we haven’t been together since we were in South Africa for Christmas).

Then back from Ireland and two days break before flying to Canada for 4 or 5 nights in Toronto (another new country for my list).
Then I will travel across to Springfield just outside Boston on the east coast to stay with an old school friend, head south to Richmond in Virginia to stay with a colleague I worked with millions of years ago, then head west to Indianapolis (where I will meet Raj mentioned above) and stay with a very good friend from school who I lost contact with for 20 years or so, then head west to Troy in Illinois to stay with a neighbour from South Africa that I haven’t seen in nearly 10 years, then head east to Virginia Beach in Virginia to stay with a couple I was flower girl for in…wait for it…1982 (!!!) and finally to Washington DC to stay with the couple in Virginia Beach’s daughter.

The whole trip will take me just over 2 months and should be an absolute blast. I am so looking forward to it. Think of the sights, the food, the catching up and the photography!!! Woohoo!!!

I still, however, have much to do. I have booked my ticket to Canada but its a one way ticket because I wasn’t going to be leaving to fly back to England from Canada. Canada doesn’t allow you to enter on a one-way ticket so I have to book my transport OUT of Canada before I leave (more about that soon).
Then there is the rest of the transport to book too so I am working hard on getting some good deals. I am on a budget after all.

Right, so that is the latest. More about the Ireland trip coming soon.
